Camelot Falls to Hot Shooting Meadow Brook in Semifinal

Camelot’s run to the championship ended Saturday when they lost 79-47 to a red-hot Meadow Brook team that advances to it’s first finals appearance.

Meadow Brook took an early lead in the first half by being lights out from beyond the arc. Camelot was able to keep it close and battled back to tie it at 24 with five minutes left in the half after a deep Brandon Milner three-pointer.

The Meadow Brook outside shooters came to life, going on an 11-0 run to close out the first half with a 35-24 advantage. A combination of Meadow Brook shooting 60% from deep and getting 14 points off turnovers put Camelot into a hole.

Coming out at halftime, Camelot switched to man-to-man to shut down the perimeter shooters from getting open looks. However, not even three minutes into the 2nd half, the Meadow Brook shooters were locked in and had stretched the lead to 44-24.

“It was just one of those games where they were making everything and we couldn't get our shots to fall.” said Adam Provance. “Give credit to them, they were lights out all game. It's not like only one of them was knocking them down, all of them just couldn’t miss.”

Camelot sputtered on offense, shooting only 19.2% (5-26) from 3-point land. An offensive rebound and put back by Jacob Hernandez finally stopped a 24-0 Meadow Brook run around the 14-minute mark.

Camelot was able to put together a couple of good possessions that got the lead down to 18 after a shifty drive and lay up by Charlie Barnett.

With the game out of reach and with 11 minutes left, things got a little heated between teams as the lack of effort and interest from the officials allowed things to get out of hand as they didn't use their whistles.

Camelot wraps up their season with its best finish and deepest run ever in the stake tournament. Tyler Colson led with way with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks, while Brandon Milner added 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Last year, Camelot won only two games and this year, Camelot won five. They look forward to next season and hope to build on this season

Game Notes:

Camelot did not attempt a free throw all game.

Camelot shot 37.6% from the field. (21-56)

Congrats to a great season, and a special thanks to all those who were on the team!

Camelot Survives To Advance To Final Four

Camelot held off a scrappy Jessie’s Brook 2nd Ward in a low scoring, emotionally charged game to win 38-36 and move on to the Final Four.

Jessie’s Brook 2nd started off hot, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. Meanwhile, Camelot was ice-cold from the field, missing 8 of their first 9 shot attempts, and committing four turnovers.

Things started to get a little chippy with about 7 minutes left in the first half, when Brandon Milner took an elbow from a Jessie’s Brook player. After the two got tangled on the very next possession, two quick fouls were called, and things got heated. A couple more rough exchanges in the span of just a few minutes, and players from both sides began chirping at the officials and each other. It was during this time that Camelot went on a 13-3 run, going up by four.

Play became so aggressive that the officials ended the 1st half with 1:30 left to allow for both teams to cool down with an extended halftime. Camelot went into intermission with a 15-11 lead.

During halftime, Camelot was able to regain their composure and put together a good game plan to neutralize the aggressive play of Jessie’s Brook.

Camelot, with a height advantage, began to pound the ball down low to its big men, Tyler Colston and Jacob Hernandez, who were able to get good looks at the basket and draw fouls.

Camelot held a 35-30 lead with less than 3 minutes left and looked to be in control. But, a loose ball scramble after a Jessie’s Brook miss, allowed them to regain possession, and kicked it to an open man in the corner that nailed an open 3 pointer to cut the lead to 35-33.

Jessie’s Brook began to full-court press and were able to get some turnovers, but couldn’t convert any open looks. With less than a minute left, they began fouling to prevent Camelot from running out the clock, and put Camelot on the line. For the game, Camelot shot only 41.6% from the charity stripe, but hit the big free throws when needed.

After a controversial out of bounds call, Jessie’s Brook was given the ball with just 3 seconds left. They had one last chance to win it with a 3 pointer, but it clanked off the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded. The 38-36 final score was the lowest total among all games during the regular season and in the tournament.

Camelot had an off day, shooting 32.5% from the floor, including 22.7% from 3, but managed to survive and advance. After making it to the championship game last year, a disappointed Jessie’s Brook team will look to rebound next season.

Tyler Colson led Camelot with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks on 4 of 5 shooting, including 2 of 2 from beyond the arc. The win was a total team effort as all ten Camelot players played in the game, each contributing key rebounds, steals, and baskets.

Game Notes:

Camelot is undefeated when leading at the half this year.

The 3rd seeded Camelot will face off against 2nd seeded Meadow Brook on March 16th at 10am. This will be a rematch from a February 1st meeting when Meadow Brook narrowly defeated a short-handed Camelot team 49-45.

Camelot Gets Big Win In Thrilling Overtime Victory

A short-handed Camelot basketball team survived a furious rally to win in OT on a last second layup for a thrilling 68-66 victory against Jessie's Brook 1st Ward on Saturday.

Jessie's Brook got on a roll early, getting several uncontested layups on fastbreaks. Camelot was able to overcome their slow start and cut the lead to one before Jessie's Brook nailed a 3 at the end of the 1st half, to take a 37-33 lead.

After some halftime adjustments, Camelot came out and moved the ball well, penetrating the lane and dishing to open men for easy buckets. They quickly erased the halftime deficit.

Jeff Michaelis and Brandon Milner had key steals in the second half that led to fastbreak points as Camelot took a 45-37 lead with 12 minutes left in the game. Mike Jensen was a monster on the boards, grabbing a game-high 19 rebounds, 10 of which were on the offensive end.

Camelot was hot from beyond the arc, shooting 46.7%. After a Landon Stabenow three, Camelot extended their 2nd half lead to 53-41 with 7 minutes left.

Jessie's Brook would not give up, and began chipping away cutting the lead to 9 points with less than 1:30 left. After committing fouls to stop the clock, Jessie's Brook roared back to take a 66-65 lead with 8 seconds left by draining four heavily contested 3 pointers on four consecutive possessions.

A Jessie's Brook player, not aware that they were ahead by one, fouled Brian Peterson with just seconds left in regulation, sending him to the line. Peterson was able to knock down one of the two free throws to send the game to overtime.

The game remained tied in overtime at 66 until a Brandon Milner steal with 12 seconds left. Milner found an open Jeff Michaelis who laid it in with the left hand with 0:04 seconds left to seal the win.

Game Notes:

Four of the six Camelot players scored in double figures. Mike Jensen led the way for with 15pts/19rbs, Landon Stabenow dropped in 14pts/6rbs. Brian Peterson and Brandon Milner chipped in 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

The 8am game time made it a challenge to get enough players, as Adam Provance, who is out with an Achilles injury, had to play for the first 7 minutes before Jeff Michaelis was able come in.

Camelot's next game is this Saturday, February 24th at 10am vs Spring Creek 19th. Tournament play will begin on March 2nd.
